Man's got to know his limitation's !!!! 12.17.2009 PDF Print E-mail

This is just for content but it's also how I feel about it at the moment !!! Peace and tranquility to you !!!

I just want to pipe up on the issue of skiing the back country . Yesterday a snowboarder wandered out on love land pass without knowledge or gear and was lucky enough to walk away from an avalanche !I just want to express to theskier.com community that this is not the way to gain experience !!! I have heard the term suicide squad issued in these circumstances and have been a member of this squadron. I hope this will stand as a warning to the novice/beginner.

Get educated first !!! Get the gear (beacon, probe, shovel, minimum)!!! Get a partner that has experience. Practice, practice, practice (rescue and safe travel) !!!

There are more thing's to be aware of that can kill you too !!! There are tree well's and depth hoar that can put your head down and suckin snow instead of air. A recent story of a ski patrol trainee with considerable skill that lost his life in a head down tree well incident. Never forget that because the minuit you do mother nature will show you a new way to panic and die !!!

It can be the best experience or it can be your last experience it's up to you. I have known people who made mistakes and paid a steep price for lack of knowledge. If you are on a computer watch some avalanche video's ! If your out there ask around about condition's and routes. Most BC user's will gladly show you some tip's and maybe even give up a stash line when at the trail head. Some won't. Some will. Some will even leave sucker track's that either put a follower in a terrain trap or in a avalanche zone which is not a good place to be !!!

Remember when you use the back country there is "NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY" !!! Your on your own !!! I have seen Search and rescue not enter a slide area because of hang fire danger (secondary slides) and rightfully so. Why get even one more person killed because of another's lack of knowledge and preparedness .

Better safe than buried alway's err on the side of saftey !!! The alternatives are harsh !!! There is no reason to experience that white light and your last breath just for rushing in to where fools fear to tread !!!

Peace and tranquility !!! Static
